POLICE CHIEF: Cardinals fans will notice more police officers, surveillance for NLCS games

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Baseball fans coming downtown for the big games ahead will get some extra protection from St. Louis Metropolitan Police. Police Chief John Hayden says he's adding more uniformed officers, more undercover officers and security cameras to help protect the fans.

"People will be reassured by our presence as well as our surveillance with respect to what's going on," Hayden says.

Busch Stadium will host Games 1 and 2 of the National League Championship Series on Friday and Saturday. The St. Louis Cardinals are hosting the Washington Nationals.

Hayden says officers will also be patrolling the parking lots around the stadium to deter car break-ins during this weekend's home the games. He declined to reveal the exact number of police who will be on patrol downtown, but he says it will be similar to other Cardinals playoff games or the Stanley Cup playoffs.

KMOX asked if Hayden believes fans should take the MetroLink into downtown for the game. He said, "good idea."

1-64 BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION POSTPONED

If you're going to the Cardinals game tonight, you should know MoDOT has rescheduled some construction that had been planned.

The on-ramps from Broadway and 10th Street to get onto westbound I-64 will be open tonight.

Also, work on the westbound Poplar Street Bridge ramp to get onto I-55 and I-44 has been pushed back to Saturday night and should be done by midday Sunday.

However, the 14th street ramp to westbound I-64 will remain closed through November.
