ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - After a deadly 2019 in St. Louis, we're finding out more about how Mayor Lyda Krewson's administration hopes to lower violent crime this year.Krewson's Public Safety Director, Judge Jimmy Edwards, sent aldermen his plan which he says could lower violent crime by 15% this year. It continues the strategy of three crime rectangles of more police downtown, in south city in parts of Dutchtown and Gravois Park, and in a wide swath of north city. The plan also calls for expanded police surveillance cameras, license plate readers and high visibility cameras -- all feeding into the Real Time Crime Center. Police will also speak at area schools to discourage guns, gangs and drugs.Edwards says a lot of this depends on getting more people to report crimes and testify when criminals stand trial.Additional editing by Alex Degman
