ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Public health restrictions in St. Louis City and County will start to be reduced on May 18, announced County Executive Sam Page and Mayor Lyda Krewson.

More details will be released by the end of the week, Page says. He spoke about some of those details in his Wednesday morning press conference:

"We’ll have more detailed guidance by the end of the week, which will continue emphasizing social distancing practices including wearing a mask, avoiding large crowds, and staying home when possible," stated a tweet from Page.

On Monday, both Page and Krewson reiterated their decisions to not change their stay-at-home orders, even though Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has allowed businesses to reopen.

They say there needs to be evidence the numbers are coming down before any easing of safety restrictions.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Tuesday outlined a five-phase plan for re-opening the state, which would divide the state into four regions — northeastern, north-central, central and southern Illinois – and allow for the gradual easing of restrictions on businesses and gatherings in those areas as their rate of new coronavirus infections slows.

If a region has fewer than 20% of its tests coming back positive, then it can begin allowing gatherings of 10 or fewer people. No region in the state is likely to reach that benchmark before May 29, Pritzker says.
