One IL school district plans for e-learning during shutdown

Collinsville, IL (KMOX) - Starting Tuesday, one district will switch to e-learning when Illinois K through 12 schools close for two weeks.

The Collinsville School District started communicating potential plans with parents late last week before the statewide shutdown was announced.

In some classes that includes a week's worth of study ideas covering math, reading, writing, science and social studies, using online resources already familiar to students.  Some teachers plan to use Google Classroom to engage students.  Educators are looking for ways to help families who may not have access to the internet.

District officials say teachers are expected to be available to parents and students between 8am and 1pm, Monday-Friday.   Many educators use smart phone apps such as Class Dojo or Bloomz to communicate.

To help families who rely on school meals, the district is keeping its food service running.  Starting Tuesday sack meals will be prepared each weekday.  Each bag will contain food for both breakfast and lunch and can be picked up at four of the district's schools between 8 am and noon.  Those schools are Collinsville High School, Renfro Elementary, Webster Elementary, and Kreitner Elementary.  Families are asked to drive to the pick-up location, roll down their window, and can pick up the meal without leaving their vehicle.
