ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - More young athletes are returning to fields, gyms and rinks this week. It won't look the same as before the pandemic.
The President of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater St. Louis says with economic hardship across the region, many sports programs will need to be scaled back. "The travel associated with tournaments and the kind of uniforms and equipment that are required for that. I think it may require us to take a more scaled back look at it," Flint Fowler tells KMOX.
Players and parents will be navigating rules and restrictions for staying safe during the pandemic, including temperature checks, limits on dressing areas, requirements for sanitizing uniforms and equipment, wearing masks, travel restrictions and social distancing. High 5's, fist bumps, and huddles will be prohibited. "And then when you get back into sports and it doesn't fit your image of what you expected it to be, that's where I think there may be some challenges for some kids." - Paul Jenkins, St. Louis Children's Hospital.
