ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Two schools in north St. Louis County were placed on lockdown as police were in pursuit of a carjacking suspect who crashed near the schools, Tuesday.
Police say the suspect crashed near St. Cyr Road & Yorktown Drive, next to Danforth Elementary School in the Riverview Gardens school district. The suspect tried to run from police, but was caught.
Witnesses on the scene say they saw the vehicle crash into the back of a pickup truck then one person ran towards the open field next to the school. Police say they have one person in custody and are not looking for anyone else.
The chase began in north St. Louis County as police were searching for a carjacking suspect.

April 2, 2019 The school was placed on lockdown, as was Michelle Obama Early Childhood Academic Center. A spokesman for the Riverview Gardens School District says all students are safe and the suspect did not entered either school. Both schools have lifted the lockdown.
