FENTON, Mo. (KMOX) — A man is in custody after he allegedly went to the store, took out a key lime pie, smashed the freezer door window, ate the pie in the store, and fled.

Officers went to the Wal-Mart at Gravois Bluffs at about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday for a report of Destruction of Property. Officers talk to store employees, who told them about the incident, including the part where he slammed the door shut and shattered the glass.

When they went to investigate, they discovered an empty key lime pie box in the next aisle.

It didn't take long for officers to find the suspect: another officer found a man with a "white food substance" on his mustache, hoodie, and pants. The smell of key lime pie was also a giveaway.

The suspect, 28-year-old Zachary Maurer, has been charged with Destruction of Property and Larceny.

St. Louis County Police had some fun with the incident, posting this tweet Friday afternon:

1/26: "Suspect took a key lime pie from the freezer section...he slammed the freezer door, shattering the glass. The suspect ate the pie & fled the store. He was spotted by officers running in the area (he still had whipped cream on his face) and arrested." #CantMakeThisStuffUp pic.twitter.com/KaseQpupUJ
