ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Two weeks into the new year -- how are you doing keeping up with your resolutions?

Studies show by this time of the year, 25-percent of us have already given up on our resolutions.  By the second week in February, 80-percent of us are back to our old ways.

Dr. Judit Farkas, a SSM Health Primary care physician, says many of us set our goals too high. And we need to keep them simple and attainable.

"Weight loss is a big one and comes up all the time," Dr. Farkas told KMOX's Fred Bodimer. "Instead of saying you want to lose weight, what do you really want to do? Do you want to eat healthier? Do you want to get out and move more? And even if it's something like wanting to eat healthier, where do you want to start? Do you want to start with sugary beverages? Fast food?"

Alternatively, Farkas says you can pick two specific days of the week for working out instead of simply saying you want to exercise more or unrealistically saying you want to work out five days a week.

"So, if you plan on going, say, Tuesdays and Saturdays, it takes away 'well, today I just don't feel like it.' It doesn't matter, you planned to go on Tuesdays and Saturdays, so you will go on Tuesdays and Saturdays. And that's two days a week...then two can turn into three...and three can turn into four."
