Flood debris left on riverfront may be source of downtown's 'fishy' smell

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Down on the riverfront, they're hosing away the dead fish and other debris left behind by falling floodwaters. St. Louis City Street Department worker Tim Allison says he was at that Wednesday night Cards-Cubs game which was the site of numerous complaints on social media for the smell around downtown.

"Some of the fans were like 'What's that smell?' And I said, 'Welcome to my world,'" Allison said chuckling. "I think (the riverfront) is where the fishy smell is coming from."

He's been among the city workers cleaning up sand, dead trees and other debris left on the levee after near-record setting flooding in the area this spring.

The smell has cleared up now, but the cleanup at riverfront will take a couple more weeks.
