Mayor Krewson ends 9 p.m. curfew in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - The curfew that has been in place in St. Louis for nearly a week has been lifted. St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson said in a tweet on Monday that the 9 p.m. curfew will be lifted "immediately." 

The citywide curfew is lifted effective immediately. I thank all the residents and businesses that chose to respect the curfew these past several nights. As a City and as a country, we are listening and changing through non-violent protests and self-expression.

St. Louis' 9 p.m. curfew in the city will not be lifted for this weekend. 

St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson posted on Facebook Friday afternoon, asking for residents to continue "respecting the citywide curfew" this weekend.

"We ask that you do so in a way that protects yourself, protects others, and protects our community, like wearing a mask/face covering, practicing social distancing, and respecting the citywide curfew. Be safe."

There have been no major incidents overnight in the city since the violence on Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

Krewson says exceptions to the curfew are people who are going to and from work, hospital and any government and emergency employees.

The curfew will end at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

An alderman is calling for more help.

"I would hope as we move into this (Tuesday) evening we have more help from our state partners in the National Guard and the Highway Patrol and I also think that it would probably be wise to implement some sort of curfew," says Alderman Jack Coatar who represents downtown St. Louis.

Speaking on KMOX Tuesday morning, Coatar points out the peaceful protests disbanded before dark.

He says he and local police officials that he's talked to expect more violence to come Tuesday night.
