ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — In the U.S., 100,000 people are waiting for a kidney donation. Charlotte Ottley is one of them.
KMOX's Carol Daniel is checking back in with her for an update on her search.
"I am making the best of a bad situation." Ottley says.
That's how she has handled learning that she was in kidney failure last year and would need a kidney or have to go on dialysis. She hasn't found a donor yet and had to start dialysis in mid-June. She goes three days a week for five hours each.
"I cried every day the first week," she told Carol Daniel.
Ottley says even if she gets a kidney, she's not sure how she'll afford the $1500 dollars needed to pay for medication monthly.
If you'd like to see if you are a match, you can call the Kidney Transplant Office at 800-633-9906. You must be at least 18, be in good physical and mental health and undergo a full medical exam first.
