WELLSTON, Mo. (KMOX) - Details of the incident where a North County Police Cooperative officer was shot and killed in Wellston Sunday afternoon were released by police, Monday.
Meeks and Langsdorf struggled on the floor for some time before Meeks struck the officer’s head several times with gun he pulled from his waistband. Meeks stood up above Langsdorf who was face down on the floor and fired one shot into Langsdorf's neck.
Directly after the shooting, Meeks ran, gun in hand, out of the store and down Page Avenue, where he was captured by police and his weapon was recovered. During interviews following the incident, Meeks confessed to killing Langsdorf. Police say Meeks had a violent crime history, mostly in North Carolina.
Police believe he arrived in St. Louis in January, but most of his adult life was spend in North Carolina police say.
Meeks has been charged with one count of first degree muder, one count of armed criminal action, one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, and one count of resisting arrest. No bond was set.
Flags are at half staff Monday at all St. Louis County Police Departments to mourn the loss.
