Randy Arozarena promoted to Cardinals MLB roster; Molina activated

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals have made a couple of big additions to their Major League roster, in the promotion of outfield prospect Randy Arozarena and the return of catcher Yadier Molina.

Molina is back from a right thumb strain that has kept him out since July 8.

Arozarena could make his big-legaue debut as soon as Tuesday with the Cardinals in Kansas City. His contract was purchased from Triple-A Memphis after reaching base safely in 37-straight starts for Memphis.

The 24-year-old has a 1.004 OPS across 231 plate appearances with both Memphis and Double-A Springfield. He's hit .368/.442/.562 with seven home runs and eight steals at Triple-A this season. And was named the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month for July

He's been a guy that Cards president of baseball operations John Mozeliak has been trying to get into the big for a few weeks now:

I asked Mozeliak about Randy Arozarena on @KMOXSports: “We’ll see where we end up today. Off tomorrow and then perhaps make a roster decision if we feel necessary. He just would bring a different element to the club if need be. (Shildt) knows that’s possibly a weapon we can use.”
