EUREKA, Mo (KMOX) - Local mountain bikers will have a new place to test their skills this spring.

The city of Eureka is building the Eureka Mountain Bike Park adjacent to the Timbers of Eureka near Interstate-44 and Highway 109, in the backyard of the Timbers of Eureka Recreation Center.

The park will feature seven trails of varying difficulty, including a more than 1,000-foot long dual slalom course that will allow riders to race against each other.

Some of the other trails are a Pump Track to help a rider develop the ability to "pump" through a course versus pedaling, the Strider Playground for small bicycles for beginning children riders and a Return/Observation Trail that will provide access to maintenance and emergency vehicles.

At the top of the course will be a Starting Hub where all the trails will begin and it will be elevated to bring a rider to the appropriate speed for the trail they choose.

The city has invested close to $100,000 in the project, which developers hope to open in mid-March.
