Three people are injured and one is dead after a shooting during a little league football game at Madison Senior High School.

The Major Case Squad is now investigating. They say said the shooting happened around 9:50 p.m. Sunday night. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and three others were transported to local hospitals.

Mike Gerdine Jr. was at the game and is a coach for one of the little league teams who played. He said after people stormed the field, a fight broke out and ended in gunfire.

"The first couple shots were just shots in the air, someone was trying to kind of disperse the crowd," Gerdine Jr. said. "I was actually in the middle of the field when the shooting started, but from what I gathered, the shooter was actually outside of the gate and they shot into the crowd."

He described the aftermath as "chaotic," detailing how community members tied a tourniquet around another coach's leg after he was shot, while others administered aid to a player's grandfather.

"A bunch of people were trying to give the gentlemen that was shot CPR and just trying to keep him alive as long as possible, but I don't know [that] there was much they could do," Gerdine Jr. said. "He was shot in the head. It just wasn't a good sight at all."

The Major Case Squad is asking anyone with information or videos to contact police.

Classes at Madison Community Unit School District 12 have been canceled today, "due to unforeseen circumstances," according to the school's website. Classes were already canceled tomorrow due to the election. They're expected to resume on Wednesday.
