USS St. Louis taking steps towards official commission in August

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The future U.S.S. St. Louis is getting closer to being seaworthy.
The future coastal Navy ship recently passed its acceptance trials in Lake Michigan. Now, it'll be fitted for active service, with commissioning set for August.
The ships' Commanders Kevin Hagen and Eric Turner, and Senior Chief Petty Officer Brandon Ellison were in the KMOX studio, Thursday morning:
"One thing I would say that we know about the people of St. Louis is that they are absolutely supportive of the military," Ellison says. Every time we come into town we've gotten nothing but, 'Thank you for your service,' and the smiles of the people of St. Louis."
St. Louis's Barbara Broadhurst Taylor is the ship's sponsor. She helped christen the ship in December 2018.
