WATCH: First views 200 feet above city from St. Louis Wheel

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The first lines to take a ride on the St. Louis Wheel were formed on Tuesday for a VIP and media opening.

It will open at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at Union Station and tickets will be $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 3 to 12. Once it opens, it'll be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. all 365 days of the year.

The 15-minute ride features dozens of eight-passenger, climate-controlled gondolas that offer a view of St. Louis that stretches for nearly 20 miles. The Wheel boasts 1.6 million LED lights in over 16 million colors.

In addition to The Wheel itself, the grand opening will feature The Soda Fountain ice cream parlor, a classic carousel and an 18-hole mini-golf course.
