
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The holiday break will begin early for members of the St. Louis Blues and Saint Louis University Billikens as both teams had games either canceled or postponed this week.

There's been a recent rise in positive COVID-19 cases in the NHL, as 10 of the league’s 32 teams’ schedules were already paused and now their facilities have closed. The Blues' games set for Tuesday and Thursday in Ottawa and Toronto have been postponed.
The league announced Monday night that its annual holiday break will begin Wednesday instead of Friday. Practices are set to resume Sunday and games on Monday. More than 15% of the league’s 700-plus players are in virus protocol.
COVID is also effecting U.S. and Canadian women’s hockey teams, who had its pre-Olympic game Monday night in St. Paul, Minnesota canceled. The teams most recently played two games in Maryland Heights, Missouri last Wednesday and Friday.
Dozens of college basketball teams throughout the US have had to go on COVID pauses this season, such as schools like UCLA, Ohio State, USC, Memphis and Syracuse. Saint Louis now joins their ranks.
Wednesday's game scheduled in Las Vegas against Drake has been canceled due to COVID protocols. No other details were released by SLU.
The Billikens' next game will be on Dec. 30 and will kick of conference play. They'll play at Atlantic 10 opponent UMass.
