ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Dome at America's Center is going to be very busy the next two weeks.
The St. Louis Battlehawks' win last week against the San Antonio Brahmas meant that the XFL Conference Championship game between both teams will be at the Dome At America's Center on Sunday, June 9th, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. Central Time.
Should the Battlehawks win, they will advance to the first-ever United Football League Championship Game, which will be held at the Dome At America's Center on Sunday, June 16th. You can listen to the championship game on KMOX's sister station 97.1 FM with KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman calling the game alongside former St. Louis Rams head coach Mike Martz.
UFL President Russ Brandon joined KMOX's Total Information A.M. Thursday to preview the Conference Championship game between the Battlehawks and the San Antonio Brahmas.
Brandon believes the decision for St. Louis to host the championship game to be obvious had to be involved in hosting a championship game as he was going for a morning jog the day of the Battlehawks' season opener last year.
"The fans in St. Louis are incredible," said Brandon. "Quite frankly, it's the reason why we awarded the game here with the fandom they displayed. Everything we have done, our town hall events, our community events are well attended. It's just a pleasure to be in St. Louis."
Brandon says the opportunity for St. Louis the next two weeks is huge, with some across the country having noticed the attendance numbers that St. Louis have had for a spring football league, compared to the rest of the league.
"It has resonated across the country," said Brandon. "I can't tell you the amount of people who watch Battlehawks games talk about the fan reactions and just watching it on television. This is a huge opportunity for St. Louis, it's a championship type town, especially next week if the Battlehawks get in, it could be an opportunity to sell-out the Dome and we would challenge the fans to sell it out."
Explore St. Louis VP of Communications Cat Neville echoed similar sentiments to Brandon about the need to pack the Dome on Sunday.
"When you are in the Battledome, there is so much energy, it is so much fun," said Neville. "People are dressed up, they are pumped, they are literally tailgating for hours...then they head into the dome, they are drinking, hanging out, dancing, it is so much fun.... if you have never been to a Battlehawks game this (Sunday) is the game attend and it is going to be so fun."
