San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. is headed back to the injured list after he tested positive for COVID-19.

The Padres announced on Tuesday that Tatis, Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo have all been placed on the IL due to health and safety protocols prior to their game against the Colorado Rockies. Manager Jayce Tingler says Tatis tested positive as is asymptomatic.

According to Padres beat reporter Dennis Lin, at least one player tested positive. There's no timetable for any of the players' possible returns, but they all may miss the weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals set to begin this Friday.

Tatis, 22, was already on the IL earlier this year with left shoulder inflammation.

Despite missing time due to the injury, Tatis has nine home runs and 14 RBI with a league-leading seven stolen bases and an .867 OPS.

Meanwhile, the Yankees also had a positive COVID test with third base coach Phil Nevin, who is fully vaccinated. At least four other coaches are in contact tracing pending results, but no players appear to be affected.
