ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) is honoring the late Bobby Plager, by naming one of its top awards after him.
The Club announced this morning that the Legends Award presented annually at the MAC's Jack Buck Awards is being renamed the Bob Plagter Legends Award.
Plager is the last person to win the award when he was honored in 2019. There was no ceremony in 2020. You can listen to his full speech in the audio at the top of this page.
Plager gave a beautiful and tearfully acceptance speech:
"I'll choke up when I talk about my brother, but he's the legend," Bob said of his brother Barclay, who also played for the Blues but passed away in 1988. "He was my hero, and because of him, I'm here (getting this award) tonight. So if there's only one thing I could change tonight, instead of 'Bob Plager' on the plaque, (I wish) it would read 'The Plagers.'"
Former recipients of the Bob Plager Legends Award include Al Hrabosky, Barret Jackman, Steve Stipanovich, Chris Pronger and Keith Tkachuk.
