'Not humanly possible': Cardinals Nolan Areando makes stunning over-the-shoulder catch

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Nolan Arenado show demanded the spotlight in last night's 5-2 St. Louis Cardinals victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Even though the superstar third baseman had a great day at the plate, it was a catch in the third inning that we can't stop replaying.

All-Star outfielder Bryce Harper was the plate, representing the tying run, when he fouled a pitch high up in the air into foul territory behind third base. Arenado took off.

He ran a total of 91 feet, sliding away from home plate, to make an over-the-shoulder catch.

It drew an "Oh my!" our John Rooney in the Cardinals radio broadcast booth (you can hear the call in the audio at the top of the page).

The catch was even declared to be "not humanly possible" by the Phillies broadcast crew.

And after the game, Arenado's fellow infielder Tommy Edman talked about the snag.

"That's just a glimpse of how good he is defensively," Edman said. "And honestly, this is just testament to how good he is, I almost expected him to catch that. I just saw the way he was tracking it down, saw that he had a bead on it and that's just the kind of play you come to expect."

MLB Network points out that this type of play might be Arenado's "signature move":
