ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals have announced Wednesday that second baseman Nolan Gorman have been optioned down to Triple-A Memphis, and the club has recalled INF Jose Fermin as a corresponding move.
Gorman started off 2024 hot, smashing 14 home runs and posting a .829 OPS in his first 53 games of the season, looking to appear like he would be a key bat in the Cardinals lineup.
However since then, Gorman has become a liability in the Cardinals lineup, posting a slash line of .171/.219/.291 in his last 54 games, posting a OPS of .511 and striking out 79 times in that stretch and only homering five times.
Gorman becomes the latest set of moves made by the Cardinals this week. On Tuesday, the Cardinals made a flurry of moves which included sending down outfielder Jordan Walker to Memphis and releasing shortstop Brandon Crawford.
Fermin has seen action in the majors in 2024, but has not quite made a mark in any of his appearances. Overall in the 30 games Fermin has appeared for the Cardinals, he has posted a .130/.216/.174 slash line, posting a OPS of .390 and no homers or RBIs this season.
