NEW YORK (KMOX) - The Cardinals salvaged a split with the New York Mets in Tuesday's doubleheader at Citi Field, and are preparing to face a St. Louis native on Wednesday night.
Mets pitching stifled the Cards in game one, Tuesday, in taking a 3-1 win. St. Louis pitcher Miles Mikolas entered with a 1.49 ERA, but allowed a season-high three runs over six innings. In game two, Tyler O'Neill beat out a tiebreaking infield single in the ninth inning. Giovanny Gallegos got the save for Ryan Helsley, as the Redbirds won 4-3.
Parkway Central High grad Max Scherzer (4-1) is set to pitch for the Mets on Wednesday night against Jordan Hicks (1-3). This will be Scherzer's 15th career start against the Cardinals. He's 4-6 all-time against St. Louis. It's a 6:10 PM start, St. Louis time.
