ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - MLB reporter Craig Mish gives the St. Louis Cardinals an 80% chance of landing star Nolan Arenado in a trade with the Colorado Rockies.
Mish joined Kevin Wheeler on Sports Open Line Friday evening to discuss the the potential trade and other hot stove news.
“This deal has a really good chance of happening," Mish said. It doesn’t guarantee it’s going to, but the Rockies are very motivated, and the Cardinals understand if Arenado is on the free agent market they would have to fight for him just like in the past with other free agents that haven’t always worked out.
Mish went on to explain that he wasn't really looking for the story today, but someone who trusts him told him the names that have been discussed in a potential deal. Craig said that he doesn't take trade talk as serious if the players being discussed are just three major league players, but today he was told specific minor league players at different levels in the Cardinals organization.
"That's something that peaks my interest because this isn't some random source just telling me things," Mish explained.
Mish said he thinks the two teams are close to a trade in terms of the players to be moved, but Arenado's massive contract is the hang-up at this point.
