ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals already have one member of the 2011 World Series winning team on its coaching staff in bench coach Daniel Descalso. They could reportedly see another member of that roster join the Cardinals coaching staff.
According to The Athletic's Katie Woo, Jon Jay, previously served as first base coach on Miami Marlins from 2023-2024, will join the Cardinals coaching staff in 2025.
In addition to Jay, Woo reports Cardinals Hall of Famer Willie McGee, who has been a part of the Cardinals coaching staff since 2018, will shift into an advisory role in the front office.
The Cardinals drafted Jay in the second round of the 2006 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Miami and would make his major league debut with the Cardinals in 2010. Jay played six out his 12 seasons in the majors with the Cardinals, helping the Cardinals appear in two World Series in 2011 and 2013, four consecutive NLCS appearances from 2011-2014, winning the 2011 World Series with the Cardinals.
In addition to playing for the Cardinals Jay also suited up for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs and White Sox.
Jay addition to the Cardinals coaching staff comes over two weeks after the Cardinals parted ways with hitting coach Turner Ward.
Also according to Woo, the Cardinals are closing in on naming a new assistant general manager will oversee a major revamping of player development in the minors and could also hire a new farm director.
