ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - With a new St. Louis Cardinals season starting, that means the return of the manager's show every Sunday on KMOX. Mike Shildt never disappoints in his one-hour show during Sports on a Sunday Morning and he didn't this week.

Among the topics were Saturday's scuffle with the Cincinnati Reds, the lineup with Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado hitting two-three and an updated on injured pitcher Miles Mikolas and Kwang Hyun Kim. But one of our favorite parts was the discussion about the home opener that will happen Thursday.

This will be Shildt's third home opener as manager of the Cardinals, but it will be just the second one with fans in attendance.

"It's a majestic day for the city of St. Louis," Shildt says. "It's a special day for us and one that I enjoy quite a bit. It's just an amazing blessing to be a part of. Amazing city. Amazing fans."

What is he looking forward to the most about the pre-game (and mid-game) festivities?

"To hear the fans, the roar of the crowd and different things that come with it," Shildt says. "The smell of the ballpark and the food, that'll be magnified when we get home to play in the best place to play baseball, that's Busch Stadium, in front of our fans, the best fans in baseball."

The Cardinals will host the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday with a 3:15 first pitch, our extended pre-pre-game show begins at 11 a.m. on KMOX. Click here to learn how to listen:
