ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Would Cardinals Nation be supportive of a multi-year rebuild? One Cardinals beat writer certainly thinks so.
For years, the idea of doing a multi-year rebuild similar to what the likes of the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs did in the early 2010s and the Baltimore Orioles most recently, was an idea and scenario that if this question was asked to Cardinals fans two years ago, almost all them would certainly believe the chances and odds of Texas seceding the Union would be higher than the Cardinals doing a multi-year rebuild.
But a lot has changed the last two years for the Cardinals organization, with the mood and vibes around the organization seemingly at an all-time low, with fans frustrations getting ever louder as the Cardinals continue to struggle to get back to winning ways in 2024.
The idea of a prestigious organization like the Cardinals doing a rebuild is a scenario that doesn't seem to anywhere be in the plans of the club's front office at the moment, but if a scenario ever happened, would Cardinals fans support it?
Rob Rains, who writes about the Cardinals on STLSportsPage.com think scenario of a rebuild by the Cardinals would excite some fans when he talked about it with Chris Rongey and Amy Marxkors on The Chris and Amy Show.
"I almost think (the Cardinals) are at the point where some fans will be excited by it," said Rains on The Chris and Amy Show. "A chance to see some of these younger players and think what the future could look like if you give them a chance to play. We all seen examples in the last few years that the guys we've thought had talent and ability never got the opportunity to play and then went on to get that chance. I thinks that what's fans are tired of seeing."
A big concern when it comes to multi-year rebuild would the effect it would have on getting fans to come to games, especially for a club like the Cardinals where most of their revenue come from ticket sales. Rains thinks that the Cardinals giving fans a look at something exciting will get them to come to Busch Stadium during a rebuild.
"You got a hardcore group of Cardinals fans that will come support them no matter what," said Rains. "I know the season ticket sales are probably down a little bit this year based off of last year, but I think you give them something to be excited about and they'll be there."
