NEW PICS: Here's what St. Louis CITY's one-of-a-kind stadium district will look like
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Saying it wants to create a 24/7, 365 Soccer District, St. Louis CITY SC has unveiled its plans for its campus across Market Street from the stadium now under construction in downtown west.
The "South of Market" project will include a two-story fan pavilion across from the stadium, with the coming Major League Soccer team's flagship team store, a cafe and flexible space, and a two-story training center with locker room, fitness and health facilities, which Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel says incorporates the best ideas from some of the world's best clubs.
"We tried to get into the head of a player and into the head of a coach. 'How can I get every single department in this facility used to the maximum used to the best functionality. I think that's the secret to success," Pfannenstiel says.
The project in St. Louis will become one of the few U.S.-based teams in all professional sports, and the only MLS club, to have its team headquarters, practice facility, training fields and stadium all in one centralized downtown location.
The facilities are scheduled for completion in the summer of 2022. CITY SC also acquired the Union Square Plaza building on 21st street to be the team's headquarters.
St. Louis CITY SC is scheduled to begin play in 2023
