ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Analytics have become a regular part in sports now, with baseball, football and soccer being just some of the most notable sports to see make an impact in their industries.
Now, artificial intelligence might have a bigger influence in the sports world.
Experts from numerous areas of the business side in the sports world will converge on Washington University for the ninth annual Olan Sports Business Summit on Friday, Nov. 10, like Ally Brabant, the Head of Product at Gemini Sports Analytics.
During the summit, Brabant will be presenting 'Moneyball in a Box: Using AI Cloud Applications for Sports Analytics' which takes a look at the relationship being analytics and sports and how artificial intelligence cloud application can help improve analytics.
"What my company does and where sports analytics is really going is into the predictive work," said Brabant on Total Information A.M. "So we have all of this data about what's happened in the past. How do we use that to predict the future and make better decisions off of that?"
Brabant says with artificial intelligence like the cloud technology at Gemini, teams will be able to do things such as evaluating players, being able to get 30-40 models for one player, and predict valuations for players on the open market if one player leaves, all within a 30 minute span.
"What our tooling does is it allows teams to set up a really robust data ecosystem where all of that data is pipeline accessible and then combined together data sources, you can better understand them by combining different facets of the player experience," said Brabant.
Brabant says the A.I. tool will not only be helpful for front office executives, but also scouts as well, especially the latter as Brabant says the use of A.I. will have no intention of replacing those scouts jobs.
"So if you're a scout watching players trying to see who will fit well on this team is obviously a core aspect of that job," said Brabant. "If we could help you narrow down who you're looking at to a list of say 10 players instead of 200 players so that you can spend more time looking at that player and get a holistic view of that player."
The Olin Sports Business Summit will take place on Friday, Nov. 10th at 12:30-5:30 p.m.
