SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - If you've wanted to donate to Ukraine relief efforts, you may have seen some charities ask for donations in crypto-currency. Experts tells KMOX News use of crypto by donors to many charitable efforts is on the rise, and it's been a boon for some non-profits.

The non-profit evaluator Charity Navigator says there's been a noticeable increase in just the last year. "The average gift for a non profit is typically higher when they're getting a crypto donation," says Kevin Scally, Chief Relationship Officer, "what I heard the other day is that it could be as high as $7000 as an average that an organization might receive in a single crypto donation."
Scally says typically, people involved with digital currencies have more expendable resources. For non-profits, that can have a big impact. He says most charities use an intermediary to handle the crypto transactions.
If you have some crypto currency burning a hole in your pocket, Scally would tell you what he tells all donors about Ukraine relief solicitations and other pleas for donations -- be careful responding to appeals that you see on social media. Go directly to a charity's website to verify that it's legitimate.
