Pier Property Group and Fireside Financial say the 70,000 square foot store will be part of the next phase of the Steelcote Square District development. Called "The Edwin", the development will include 196 luxury apartments, a more than 200 space parking garage and 140 surface parking spots. The Target will sit along Grand between Papin and Gratiot Streets.

"It is a tremendous endorsement of our redevelopment efforts that Target is adding a Midtown St. Louis store to the growing list of neighborhood Target stores opening in cities like Los Angeles, Denver, Portland, and New York City. Each of these stores focuses on the unique shopping needs of the surrounding neighborhood," SLU President Fred Pestello says in a statement.

PPG owner Michael Hamburg says bringing Target to the area is a collaborative effort involving St. Louis University, the city of St. Louis and the St. Louis Midtown Redevelopment Corporation.

Earlier this month, a rumor that Target might be a part of the Steelcote district was spawned from a logo on a planning document submitted to the city. The Target is walking distance to SLU, SSM Saint Louis University Hospital, the 70 Grand bus line, and the Grand MetroLink station.

It does not appear the project provides street-level engagement from Grand.

Work on the project is set to begin by the end of next month with the first residents moving in in the summer of 2023.

Construction of The Edwin will bring PPG and Fireside's total investment in the district to over $100 million.
