The Congresswoman, who represents Missouri's 1st District, joined Democrats in introducing a bill this week that would give the Department of Health and Human Services permanent authority to enact an eviction ban during public health crises.

The sponsors of the bill say it will help Americans struggling to cover rent because of pandemic-related job losses.

The U.S. Supreme Court ended the moratorium on evictions last month.

Meanwhile, the Illinois Supreme Court is extending the state's eviction moratorium through October 3rd. The move lets more people sign up for rental assistance. More money to those behind in payments became available a week ago through a program called Court-Based Rental Assistance.

The High Court issued a temporary stay on evictions so applications can be processed.
