To celebrate its 120th anniversary, Volpi Foods decided to decorate one of its large, white, outer walls with a mural and put out the call to artists. The winning mural was one of five semifinalists the public voted for on Instagram.

Jordan Bauer, senior art director at Upbrand, submitted the winning design. He's no stranger to the practice, having designed murals for City Foundry, the Angad Arts Hotel and other sites around the city.

Bauer wins $6,000 and his design will be painted on Volpi's wall this fall.

“The windows from left to right showcase diversity in the community, bikeable neighborhoods, spaghetti and meatballs, old Italian heritage, the Parish of St. Ambrose and a young and progressive next generation--windows of the past, with many opportunities toward the future,” explains Bauer about his design.

The first runner up design was from Steve Strickland who will have the opportunity to paint his concept on an interior wall of the Volpi store.

John Volpi came to St. Louis from Milan, Italy, and founded the company on the Hill in 1902. Today it is a fourth generation, family-owned business. Today, Volpi products can be found all over the country. With the popularity of charcuterie, Volpi artisan and Italian cured meats are in even higher demand. The company is spending almost $13-million to expand their meat processing plant in Union.
