While the snowfall was light, it was enough to cause dozens of accidents on secondary roads and highways Tuesday morning.
David Wrone with the St. Louis County Transportation Department says drivers have to take it slow. "Caution is the watch word."
Wrone says you "just heave to be cognizant that the pavement is obviously not pristine."

Joseph Monroe is District Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He tells KMOX they did a shift change at 7 a.m. "You've got to use calcium chloride in these temperatures and the calcium will work for a period of time, but it'll dilute itself out. You have to just come back through."
"I expect some more slick spots until the trucks can get back on their routine."
Monroe tells KMOX the temperatures need to rise for chemicals to be more effective. "Until we can get some pretty good thawing it's going to be a battle probably until 9:30 a.m. or 10 a.m.'
