St. Louis (KMOX) -- Two incidents took place recently where residents trying to call 911 got put on hold for several minutes.

In one of them, St. Louis Alderman John Collins Muhammad tweeted outrage after attempting to report a large fire in his ward on Friday.

Separately, Audacy employee Rob Kramer says he witnessed an assault by Soldier's Memorial in downtown St. Louis.

"I was on hold with police for five minutes and 15 seconds before they answered," Kramer said. "There was a recording and I thought I was going to have to leave a voicemail. It said 'Your call is very important to us and will be answered in the order it was received.'"

Kramer said he got a call back and was told a couple police cars drove by Soldier's Memorial but didn't see anything. He informed police it had been about 20 minutes since the assault happened and the criminals likely got away.
