A 29 year old woman dies following a police pursuit

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A police chase that began in Illinois ended in a deadly crash on Interstate 70 in north St. Louis this morning (Sunday). St. Louis Police say this happened on Westbound 70 near West Florissant Avenue. 29-year Precious Black was killed.

A Fairmount City, Illinois officer pulled over a Nissan for speeding. He allegedly tried to remove Black out of the vehicle but could not.

Black sped off, dragging the officer briefly. He gave chase and the pursuit ended on Interstate 70 with Black crashing the car and dying at the scene.

The officer was hospitalized with non life threatening injuries.

The Saint Louis Police's Force Investigations Unit is handling the investigation into the fatal pursuit.

Spokesman Mitch McCoy says there have been five fatal pursuits this year....but only one involved the St. Louis Police Department.
