CLAYTON, Mo. (KMOX) - After 100 plus years, Fontbonne University will close its doors following the 2025 Summer Session.

The closure of Fontbonne is part of a trend, according to president Nancy Blattner. Prospective students are not willing, or just do not have the money to put toward increasingly more expensive college degrees.

Fontbonne University was founded in 1923 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. as a college for young Catholic women. now, amid a massive drop in enrollment, Fontbonne trustees have voted to close the school permanently.

The University will not admit a freshman class in the fall of 2024 but will continue to teach classes through the Summer of 2025 to enable as many current students as possible to complete their degrees and graduate.

To help student, Fontbonne will provide scholarships to all undergraduate students for the summer of 2024 and summer 2025 sessions to cover the cost of tuition.

Additionally, support will be available to help each student graduate from Fontbonne or transfer to another institution to complete their college education.
