WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KMOX) - The Board of Education in the Wentzville School District voted unanimously to return all high school and middle school students to 100% virtual learning.

A message from the district site a reason for the change being "the increase in transmission in our community and resulting staff absences related to COVID-19 have become problematic at multiple buildings."

No changes were announced to the elementary and lower grade levels.

Here's the plan released by the district:

- Move Holt, Liberty, and Timberland High Schools to LEVEL 3: Virtual Learning beginning Monday, November 16 through the end of Winter Break with a tentative return to in-person learning on January 4, 2021.

- Move Wentzville Middle School to LEVEL 3: Virtual Learning beginning this Thursday, November 12, with a tentative return to in-person learning on Monday, December 7.

- Move Frontier Middle School and South Middle School to LEVEL 3: Virtual Learning beginning Monday, November 16, with a tentative return to in-person learning on Monday, December 7.

As I shared with the Board, we have exhausted all available resources and we simply cannot safely sustain the staffing and supervision at all buildings," said Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain. "Our staff, families, and students have all demonstrated exceptional flexibility since March and I want to commend everyone for those efforts. At the same time, we understand that any change presents new challenges for you as parents and we don't take that lightly."

The greater St. Louis area has been seeing a big spike in COVID-19 cases, much like the rest of the county. A new single-day record for hospitalizations was reached in the St. Louis area and across the state of Missouri on Tuesday.

STLCC GOING VIRTUAL

Many St. Louis Community College in-person classes will be going virtual starting next week.

All on-campus classes that are able to shift to a live virtual lecture format will be 100% virtual, starting Monday. However, classes that can't will continue to meet on-campus.

At this point, virtual learning will continue through Thanksgiving break for St. Louis Community College students.
