Police report that a pedestrian is dead after a hit and run in South City on Sunday night.
The accident occurred at around 6:45 on Gravois at South Spring Avenue. St. Louis City Police are still searching for the driver and their vehicle, a red sedan. A preliminary investigation shows that the victim was standing either in the parking or traffic lane when the car hit her and fled.
Police have not yet released the victim's name. They say the area where it happened is one that's prone to deadly pedestrian accidents.
Just last week, the city held a meeting to address traffic safety concerns, primarily on Grand. Mayor Tishaura Jones wrote an article in the Riverfront Times last week where she promised to invest $40 million to making St. Louis streets safer. This is the 14th death of a pedestrian or biker in the city in 2022.
