Strain was eventually found two weeks after his disappearance in Cumberland River by workers on the river in West Nashville on March 22, approximately eight miles from downtown.

Strain was still wearing the clothes he wore the night of his disappearance, including a watch that was still on him. Police said at the time of finding his body no foul play-related trauma was observed and there was no evidence to suggest anything other than Strain's death was accidental.
