Block is informing the state about local impacts of its lay-offs.

Block is the financial technology company formerly known as Square. It was founded by two St. Louis natives, Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey. The firm's original St. Louis presence was in the Cortex Innovation District until it renovated the former Post-Dispatch building on Tucker in downtown and moved in. But, soon after, most of those workers went remote.

Now, after the revelation of nationwide lay-offs at Block, a WARN notice filed with the state of Missouri indicates 67 local workers are being let go. The paperwork says all of them worked remotely. Their departments include engineering, design, product, business, sales, and customer service.

Notice went out Tuesday, the same day the news was first reported by TechCrunch. Separations will take effect may 24th.
