A month into the school year, bus drivers have noticed an alarming trend: Drivers are not stopping for kids getting off and on the bus.
Alan Hucke is the Chief of Police in Millstadt and told KMOX that they recently recieved complaints from staff at the public school about drivers ignoring the stop sign that swings out from the side of the bus.
"Students go directly from the sidewalk onto the bus, so because of that some of the people don't believe they have to stop, but they still do," Hucke said. "Kids are not predictable, you don't know what they're gonna do. They could still dart out into the street and unfortunately there'd be some really negative consequences that would come along with that."
Hucke said that people who are caught driving past a bus with while the stop sign is out should know that Illinois law takes away your license for three months, plus a fine.
