Greater St. Louis Inc. is proposing that the city shut down all Downtown nightclubs at 1:30 a.m. in part as a way to curb crime. CEO Jason Hall told KMOX's "The Show" that too many nightclubs remain open until 3 a.m., and Downtown is transitioning to a residential neighborhood.

"This is one of the fastest-growing neighborhoods in the region," Hall said. "We gotta update these codes so we can reflect that strength and protect that residential base which is a key part of the future of Downtown."

He said in order for Downtown to become residential, some changes have to be made.

"People deserve to have a place where they can get a good night's rest, have a safe life, and enjoy the walkable and dynamic neighborhood that Downtown is," Hall said.

He added that the idea is still in the planning stages, and Greater St. Louis Inc. wants to hear from all stakeholders before suggesting any zoning changes to the city.
