ST. LOUIS - A new study has found that younger adults have been diagnosed with cancer at higher rates than previously.
KMOX Health Editor Fred Bodimer found out more about the study with Dr. Elizabeth Salerno, an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine and Siteman Cancer Center.
Salerno explains that the earlier cancer cases are being more frequently among younger women in the 30-39 age group.
Salerno also explains that the cases are also being seen among the the populations of Hispanic, Pacific-Islander and Asian.
"We've seen an increased incident in breast cancer, that has been driving the overall increase as well as other obesity related cancers," said Salerno.
Salerno thinks the rate is going up because of possible reasons like rising obesity rates, lack of inactivity and exposure to pollutants.
