The agency says it received a call at 4 a.m. Wednesday morning from a citizen reporting multiple vehicle break-ins in Fruitland, Missouri. Investigators say a witness observed the vehicle involved in the break-in and attempted to follow it. While following it, the suspects began to shoot at the witness. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle fled.

The suspects' vehicle was stopped at I-55 and 141, where three people fled on foot. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department has been called in to help in the search using dogs, "the K9 was able to track the juvenile male suspect into a culvert area down in a wooded spot, just off the highway." Department spokesperson Grant Bissell says that was at 141 and 55 in Arnold at about 7 o'clock Wednesday morning.

Bissell says the search continues for two females believed to be in the car, "the dog was not able to continue to track and our drone that was flying involved in the search had to be grounded because of the rain."

Bissell tells KMOX he's not sure if the two girls are armed but says investigators on the scene did find guns in the vehicle.

Cape Girardeau County officials say the Jackson, Missouri Police Department also received multiple calls of a vehicle break-in, believed related to this investigation.
