
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A St. Louis hospital security guard is fighting for his life after being run over by a man's car who was allegedly breaking into vehicles in a parking lot. The suspect was shot and killed by the guard, and a woman has been arrested and charged with murder and assault.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the incident happened at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital around 1:30 a.m. The guard, described by police as a 38-year-old white male, was in critical/unstable condition and the suspect was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police say the guard was investigating the suspicious vehicle driven by the suspect, described as a 32-year-old Black male, when he was struck by the suspect with a vehicle. The guard fires shots at the vehicle. Police say the suspect was found nearby laying on the ground and suffering from a gunshot wound.
Investigators on the scene were around a red Kia that had bullet holes and damage on its windshield.
Police say 26-year-old Tiffany McCay was arrested for Murder 2nd – Felony Murder, Assault 1st, and Armed Criminal Action. She was with the suspect attempting to steal cars and was caught by police after trying to escape on foot.

Cardinal Glennon spokesperson Molly Eime issued a statement on behalf of the hospital:
"The safety of our staff, patients and visitors is our top priority. We are actively working with authorities in their investigation. We appreciate the courage of our security officer and our prayers are with all involved."
