ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- One of the region's most anticipated redevelopments opens this week.

After six years of work, City Foundry is ready to open its centerpiece, the Food Hall, to diners on Wednesday, August 11th.

Will Smith with developer New+Found says it took two years just to get rid of the water and contamination in the former Federal Mogul factory.

The food hall is starting with 11 kitchens, including Subdivision Sandwich, Buenos Aries Cafe, and Hello Poke, growing to 20 over the next year. All serve a gathering space.

Gerard Craft's company is behind the central bar, called Kitchen Bar.

"It's interesting what we're actually not starting off with are the staples, like pizza and burgers," Smith said. "We will have pizza and burgers. Those will come later this year."

City Foundry also includes offices, many of which are filled already.

Fresh Thyme grocery opens later this year. Alamo Drafthouse construction begins soon. Smith says even though Punch Bowl Social filed for bankruptcy, the Foundry has a letter of intent from the founder.

"This is just the beginning on the overall City Foundry site," Smith said.
