ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Have you paid cash for anything lately, and run into the problem of stores saying they can't make change? It's a nationwide problem. And some St. Louis area QuickTrip customers are complaining about getting "change" in the form of a receipt for money owed.

Some QT customers at a Bridgeton, Missouri location voiced their concerns.
"I think it's a way to try to push us into a cashless society," one customer said. "To me, it's scary."
Another man said something similar happened to him at a McDonald's in downtown. But, he said, instead of giving him change they just kept what was owed.
Around the U.S. there's been problems reported at laundromats, restaurants and retails stores. Some use signs to encourage digital payment.
QuickTrip says it can't get the coins it needs from banks. And the U.S. Mint has beefed up coin production.
The demand for coins began to outpace deposits in March, according to a FoxBusiness report. Financial institutions deposited about 15% fewer coins through mid-July compared with the same stretch last year and coin deposits were 45% below 2019 over the same period, the report states.
Some say the problem is one of circulation. That people need to start spending all the change they have in their purses and on their dressers.
