ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A St. Louis landmark eatery is finally seeing long desired safety improvements break ground.
Ted Drewes, home of the famous frozen custards, will finally be seeing the safety improvements they have long awaited for on Chippewa Street.
Phase one of the construction project involves tearing out the sidewalk adjacent to the Ted Drewes parking lot and from there, they will begin to work their way across Chippewa Street, adding a crosswalk and a speed hump.
In addition, according to the City of St. Louis, there will also be relocation of east parking lot entrance, an addition of a Real Time Crime Center camera, and improved lighting.
Travis Dillon, owner of Ted Drewes tells KMOX News he is excited about this stage of construction finally getting underway.

The stretch of road on Chippewa Street has had some recent tragic accidents, including a incident just a month ago where six people were injured after being hit by a car and a incident in 2022 where 17-year-old Matthew Nikolai was killed in a hit-and-run.
